What Is Tendonitis?

Tendonitis refers to the inflammation or irritation of tendons that can occur in many areas of the body. Tendons are thick fibrous cords of tissue that attach muscles to bone.

Tendonitis is often experienced with tenderness and pain around a joint and is most commonly experienced around the knees, elbows and shoulders although it can also occur in the wrists, heels and hips.

Tendons are surrounded by a sheath of tissue which protect them, however these sheaths are subject to the everyday wear and tear of life and physical activity, as well as injury and inflammatory disease such as rheumatoid arthritis.

The pain you experience with Tendonitis is generally due to inflammation or small tears in the tendon connecting the muscles to the bone.

If left untreated the continued inflammation and swelling of the tendon will scar and shrink the sheaths. This can lead to more irritation of the tendon and hence more pain and inflammation. It's a vicious cycle.

What Are The Symptoms of Tendonitis?
  • Pain when the tendon is under pressure
  • Restricted movement
  • Affected area is painful when moved or touched
  • Burning sensation around the affect area
  • Affected area is swollen, red, warm or lumpy

Why Is Proper Treatment Important?

If Tendonitis is not treated properly it can lead to excessive scarring of the tendon. This can cause severe chronic pain and result in a loss of mobility.

Tendonitis can also lead to other health conditions or ailments as your body tries to compensate for the pain. These side-effects can be even more painful and debilitating than the original Tendonitis.

Treating your Tendonitis before it turns into a recurring condition is essential for you to live a happy, pain-free life.

Fortunately, Tendonitis responds very well to certain treatments and it is possible to heal yourself in the comfort of your home without drugs or expensive physical therapy.

What Are My Treatment Options?

  • Rest
  • Heat & Cold Therapy
  • Painkillers & Anti-Inflammatory Medications
  • Surgery
  • Physical Therapy / Physiotherapy (often using ultrasound)
  • Osteopathy
  • Acupuncture
  • Ultrasound Therapy

Suffering From Recurring Tendonitis?

If you've been diagnosed with recurring tendonitis, and;
  • The pain is preventing you from working or playing sports.
  • You want to decrease your healing time.
  • You've tried other treatments that have failed to produce results.
  • You're having a hard time resting your tendon.
  • Your Tendonitis makes you avoid doing the things you want to do.
Then you should consider Ultrasound Therapy
